Live event today—come see my first live blog
I recently came across CoverItLive.com, which provides live-blogging software for free. By embedding their software in a blog, website, etc.—as I have done below—the live-blogger can communicate with readers instantly, with no page refreshing needed on the part of the readers. This is useful when covering conferences, political events, etc., in real time. It could also be used for teaching online. The blogger can post news as it happens, take quick reader polls, post photos and video (though perhaps only video already on the web—I need to do some testing), moderate readers' comments, and respond to readers' comments and questions either publicly or privately.
Beginning at 11:00 a.m. EST today (or tomorrow, depending on how you view 1:30 a.m.), December 29, 2007, I am going to conduct a test of Cover it Live's system throughout part of the day. Please come by and help me give live blogging a good test run! I'm thinking of covering a local event using this system next week. You can sign up for an email reminder below.
Update: I've temporarily moved the live blog iframe to the top of the post for greater visibility. Don't worry—clicking the Play button will just display everything rather than playing through it in real time.
